„Das Dorf" ist ein Film, welcher auf mythische, brutale und ästhetische Art und Weise erzählt, wie ein Leben auf dem Dorf sein kann. Geschichten über Fight Clubs mit späteren Grillen, ältere Herren, die von der Polizei aus Versehen erschossen wurden und Fremdgehskandale auf Rindenmulchsäcken. Rauch und Nebel ziehen durch eine unergründliche Landschaft.
Geeske Janßen verdichtet diese Episoden nicht zu einer Anklage, sondern zu einer Atmosphäre. Die Kamera bleibt nah und doch beobachtend und lässt das Groteske neben dem Zärtlichen bestehen. Was als dörfliche Idylle gelesen werden könnte, erweist sich als ein Ort eigener Gesetze und eigener Mythen – und einer Gewalt, die ebenso selbstverständlich erscheint wie das Feuer im Grill. Der Film fragt, welche Erzählungen ein Ort über sich selbst hervorbringt und was sie zugleich verschweigen.

"Das Dorf" is a film that recounts, in a mythical, brutal, and aesthetic way, what life in a village can be like. Stories of fight clubs followed by barbecues, older men accidentally shot by the police, and adultery scandals on bags of bark mulch. Smoke and fog drift through an unfathomable landscape.
Geeske Janßen does not condense these episodes into an indictment, but into an atmosphere. The camera stays close and yet observant, letting the grotesque exist alongside the tender. What might be read as rural idyll reveals itself as a place of its own laws and its own myths — and of a violence that seems as matter-of-course as the fire in the grill. The film asks what stories a place produces about itself, and what those stories conceal at the same time.
